Ethereum Mining — RX480 vs RX580

Learn everything you need to know and more about your personal computer at PC Turnaround!

In this video we compare which GPU is better for Ethereum or other cryptocurrency mining.

We are comparing the ASUS STRIX RX580 and Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 vs the Sapphire Nitro+ RX480

The videos shows that the best performer is the Sapphire Nitro+ RX480 as it can mine at the same
rate as the RX580s but uses less power and it’s much cheaper. The downside is that the card is extremely
hard to find online as a lot of people have purchased the card to mine cryptos.

The next best option is the Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 it mines at the same rate as the RX480 but uses a
bit more power but the card is easier to obtain than the Sapphire Nitro+ RX480.

The last option is to get the ASUS strix RX480 or RX580 the RX480 uses less power but the same problem
applies to this model as it’s very hard to obtain. The RX580 is easier to obtain but uses more power.

Modifying the BIOS on the RX480 and RX580 is essentially the same process and a new video will be posted
detailing the process.

What is Ethereum: Ethereum is a new type of crypto currency similar to bitcoin but it has more uses than
bitcoin which is why some users are dubbing it Bitcoin 2.0.

Unique features
1. Ethereum can only be mined with GPUs
Chinese ASIC miners used for bitcoin mining will not work!

2. Ethereum has the ability to create smart contracts
Basically you can have multiple transactions in one block on the blockchain

3. Ethereum transactions are lighting quick compared to bitcoin
sending money / receiving money is much faster

4. Ethereum can be used to create smart applications that can live forever on the blockchain
No one can take your app down like (Google / Apple / Government)

There’s a lot more to ethereum but it seems to be a very promising technology for the future.

Why use gaming cards instead workstation cards when they are made for this type of work? is it purely the cost?

Did I read correctly? You are only getting about 0.7 ETH per month? In you previous video, a few months ago, you said you were getting about 4 eth per month, correct? Is it that much harder to mine now? If so, it will be impossible in another 3 months! What am I missing?

I flashed a MSI rx 480 wrong and bricked a card you would be surprised how easy it is to get it back and running…

You bitching idiots need to get off the miners dicks.

AMD/nVidia have artificially limited chip supply to manufacturers to drive up costs.
they did it before, theyre doing it now, and they will do it agian.

one look at the sales rate will show you this.

theres no cards anywhere but less have been sold over last gen, you kidding me?
look around and stop spreading misinformation that probably started from some
mad 15 year old that couldnt get a card.

and to add to that you can still 1050 and 1060 cards almost everywhere
    as well as RX 460's

and dont tell me you need more then that when i bet almost all of you are gaming at 1080p or 1440p.

those cards will get you your 60fps at those resolutions. go buy that.

miners need very specific card configurations, everything else is still in stock.

I'm a gamer and I am tired of people accusing people who mine like they are to blame of the short of video cards. AMD is at fault. Not the miners, also, I do like to mine too and I lost the race to get the 480's. There is a lot of good video cards for gaming, the rx480 is not the queen of gaming. Vega just came out, yea I know this was created in May, at that time, people already knew about vega coming. AMD shorten the supply to increase costs to the end user. People got distracted with the release of Ryzen and not even considered video cards at the time. Now Threadripper came to call suckers to everyone that rush buying a new CPU. They already had planned the short of supply of the RX series. They want gamers hungry to buy Vega. People never learn and then blame miners for this.

So much hate from gamer's in the comments below lol, Solar is definitely something to think about in the future as you should be able to run a rig off 2-4 panels with the right setup. However that's only 10 hours of sunlight mining on a good day. The Elon Musk solar tiling for buildings will definitely be a game changer in the years to come. Rumors on the Vega 56 and 64 are interesting and will be a great read tomorrow! Just buy a 1080 or 1080ti if you are a gamer, that's what I ended up on doing for my set up lol.
